![]() So don't buy a bike just cause BB height doesn't sound high enough. your bikes headset is already assembled in LT/slacker or ST/steeper. On the spec sheet, my full suspension has the highest BB of my 3 bikes. Because when I sit on it or when I dip the suspension the pedals are closer to the ground. Suspension design is going to play a part because my FSR has a 3/4" higher BB height than my Chameleon and I have ocassional strikes with the FSR. ![]() If you don't have techy downhills though, the slacker hta isn't too important if you want the climbing ability that much more.Īnd do your own research on bottom bracket height. Plus you'll get used to it too and it will be 'normal'. So it is definitely a give/take scenario. The compromise for ME to have a steeper head tube angle would make the rest of my riding less fun. The chameleon tracks every so slightly straighter than the FSR at slow speed up a hill. I believe the fork offset is different (handles differently), or the shorter chameleon stem makes a difference. Two head angles are within 1/4 degree of each other. I guess I shouldn't say slack at 67.2 and 67.5 degrees but it is far different than 70/71. I think the handling is getting better and better on the slack bikes. Also, until pretty recently, hardtails were rarely or never slack (angles greater than 70), so you are probably used to steep rather than slack. But since you mentioned short travel, I assume that means moderate trails, which might make you a better candidate for the higher-60 degree than the mid-60s frames. Less than 68 degrees gets you toward slack. Also, a slack head tube tends to keep object strikes more "aligned" or parallel with the axis of the fork, rather transverse to it, so it's a bit better oriented to do its job. It's any time a less slack geometry would put too much weight forward, as in downhill or rough terrain where the front wheel might "stick" in something like a crevice in a rock garden. It's not jumps that slack geometry particularly helps with. Frankly, I still haven't quite gotten used to it. To me, once the bars are turned a bit from straight, they have a bit of a tendency to "flop" to an even greater deviation. Anytime you actually have to use your handlebars to steer, as in tight and twisties, it's going to be a bit of an adventure that will take some getting used to, assuming you are coming from XC geo. That means the front end can be light while climbing.Ī slack geometry bike likes to be leaned to be steered. In particular, progressive mountain bike designs with slack Head Tube Angles are increasingly adopting steeper seat tubes in order to preserve ideal rider. A slack headtube puts the front wheel more forward, which means further away from the weight of the rider (depending on seat tube angle and some other things). The two main downsides to a slack headtube are climbing and imprecise steering at low speed.

Available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. The random read and write tests gives a more realistic approach to backing up or copying smaller files, as you may do in real-world usage. Sequential read and write routines test the raw throughput of the drive, which you would see if you were copying large files to and from a drive. We use the ATTO Disk Benchmark and CrystalDiskMark benchmarks to test the throughput of each drive, using a variety of file sizes. For example, plug a USB 3.1 Gen 2 device into a USB 2.0 port and you’ll see throughputs of 480Mbps only. The only downside is that you only get the throughput speed of the lowest-rated USB port. Don’t worry, as USB is backwards compatible, all the way down to USB 2.0. To make the most of a drive, you need to plug it into the same type port on a computer. You may find that USB 3.1 Gen 2 devices comes with a USB Type-C connector cable, although an adaptor will be provided in the box so that you can use the old USB Type A connector, which is typically found on the back of your computer. Typically, hard disks can use the USB 3.0 speeds, but SSD external hard drives benefit from the faster USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds. Newer drives will support USB 3.1 Gen 2, which allows for 10Gbps.ĭon’t be fooled by the speed of the USB interface, as the actual transfer speeds differ between devices. Both standards allow for a maximum throughput of 5Gbps. All modern drives will have USB 3.0 support or USB 3.1 Gen 1 support. Which interface should you go for?Įxternal hard drives are rated by the speed of their interface. The main downside is that you pay a lot more per gigabyte, so you’re likely to end up with less disk space overall. And, because solid-state storage takes up less room than mechanical platters, these types of external hard drive can often be smaller, too. They’re more expensive than their mechanical counterparts, but they’re faster and more robust. SSD-based external hard drives have solid state storage in them. The downside is that mechanical hard disks are quite slow and they’re not as rugged. The basic choice you have to make is hard disk or SSD? Traditional hard disks are a lot cheaper per gigabyte, so make sense if you need a load of storage and don’t want to pay a fortune for it. What type of external hard drive do you need? You’ve now got a huge choice of disk, depending on the capacity you need and speed you require. The good news is that external hard drives have moved on a lot since the early days. And, even if you’re not copying files between computers, an external hard disk makes it easy to store backups of important files or have access to the data you need on the move. You can use “ bone to pick” to tell them that you want to have a stern chat with them. Over the last three years that has always been my most popular post on the site, but I have learned a lot since then so in October 2012 I wrote this new page, all about cleaning bones. You don't need to clean every bone you find. If it has been out in the open, doesn't have any soft tissue on it, and doesn't smell, then it is pretty much clean. It is rare to get diseases from any kind of bone like this. the bone does smell then I use rubber gloves to handle it until it's clean. This is what I have found out from five years of bone collecting. Other people might have different ideas but these are the ones which work for me. ![]() There are eight good and two bad techniques to clean bones, but I have missed out one of the good ones because it was told to me as a secret. I prefer to leave the bones until have no soft tissue left but that isn't always possible, especially if it's small animal where the bones are small and might get lost A lot depends on what state the bones are in at the start. To begin with, what condition are the bones in already ? Are they dry with no soft tissue, do they have some flesh attached, or is the animal recently dead ? Choose from the top row, then look down the column to see which are good ways to clean the bones. There is more about each method below.īe very very careful with hydrogen peroxide. (I don't have one so I get dad to do it instead). Wear gloves and don't get it on your hands. If you don't have enough you can usually add the same amount of water again. Rinse the bones or skull with water to get out any dirt or bugs. Then put the bones or skull in a clear plastic box, then pour over the peroxide, and top it up with water. Cover the top so the peroxide can't get out. Make sure all the bones are underneath with no air bubbles. Then leave for a few days, sometimes a week. Don't get peroxide on antlers, because it looks rubbish. When you take out the bones, rinse them well in a bucket of cold water otherwise you will get white powder residue on the bones. It seems to be reused better when it hasn't been exposed to much air. If it's warmer, the peroxide will work better. Peroxide will not dissolve soft tissue or flesh but it can soften the tissue to make it easier to remove. Rotting soft tissue in water is horrible and smelly. I recommend you do not do it if its near anyone else that can smell it. I have used soaking in cold water for when the body is skeletonised but there are still tendons attached like in the picture above.
